IDE 552 - Digital Media Production

This course focused on building fluency with digital media tools to design and develop instructional content. It introduced a range of emerging technologies - graphics, video editing, mobile platforms, and web-based tools - and emphasized how to use them purposefully. Tools like Microsoft Office Suite, Articulate Rise 360, Adobe Express, Camtasia, and WordPress weren’t just taught in isolation. Instead, the course centered on how to blend them effectively to create compelling, accessible, and instructionally sound projects. Each assignment reinforced not only technical proficiency but also the strategic thinking behind usability, accessibility, and instructional design. The work wasn't about mastering software. It was about mastering integration - how to make digital tools work together to create clean, intentional, and learner-focused products.

SELF-EFFICACY INSTRUCTIONAL VIDEO

Self-efficacy, the belief in one’s ability to achieve goals, is essential for U.S. Army Soldiers. Introduced by Albert Bandura, self-efficacy consists of four components: mastery experiences, vicarious experiences, social persuasion, and emotional regulation. High self-efficacy drives motivation, resilience, teamwork, and mission success, while low self-efficacy can hinder performance under pressure. Leaders play a critical role by setting goals, offering feedback, and building emotional resilience. Strong self-efficacy within a unit fosters trust, coordination, and adaptability, ensuring Soldiers stay focused and perform effectively in challenging environments.

MICRO E-LEARNING PROCESS

1

Analysis

During the Analysis phase, I conducted a thorough needs assessment to identify the module’s primary goals and target audience. This included:

  • Defining the learning objectives, such as improving self-efficacy in a specific skill set.

  • Analyzing learner characteristics, focusing on the needs of professionals seeking self-paced, engaging content.

  • Determining potential constraints, including the online platform's capabilities and ensuring accessibility across devices.

2

Design

In the Design phase, I outlined the structure and instructional strategies:

  • Created a module blueprint that divided the content into distinct, logically sequenced sections, each addressing a specific learning objective.

  • Designed interactive elements, such as quizzes and scenarios, to foster engagement and active participation.

  • Developed a visual storyboard to ensure a cohesive and visually appealing layout consistent with modern instructional design principles.

3

Development

The Development phase focused on content creation and integration into the Rise platform:

  • Authored clear and concise instructional content, supplemented by multimedia such as videos and graphics to enhance understanding.

  • Built interactive features, including drag-and-drop activities and knowledge checks, to reinforce learning.

  • Conducted quality assurance reviews, testing for functionality, user navigation, and alignment with learning goals.

4

Implementation

During the Implementation phase, I deployed the module and ensured readiness for learners:

  • Published the module on the Rise platform, confirming it was accessible on multiple devices.

  • Shared the module with peer reviewers, providing clear instructions for navigation and soliciting constructive feedback.

  • Addressed technical and content-related concerns raised during testing to ensure a seamless user experience.

5

Evaluation

The Evaluation phase was integral to refining the module:

  • Formative Evaluation: I shared the module with two classmates to gather their feedback on content clarity, engagement, and design. Their suggestions were invaluable in optimizing the module for the intended audience.

  • Summative Evaluation: Embedded quizzes and tracked learner progress to measure the effectiveness of the content in meeting learning objectives.

SNAP SHOT OF MICRO E-LEARNING MODULE

Target learners:

U.S. Army Soldiers and Leaders

Context in which the micro eLearning will be used:

The module will be used as part of a professional development program or as a standalone resource during leadership training. It can be accessed via an online learning management system (LMS) or shared directly with learners as a self-paced module, ideal for unit-level training or preparation for leadership evaluations.

Intended learning outcomes
1. Explain Self-Efficacy and its relevance to junior soldier's growth

2. Identify verbal persuasion as one of the source of self-efficacy

3. Apply strategies for positive verbal persuasion to boost self-confidence and motivation in different military contexts

REFLECTION

Technology is essential in instructional design and development, enabling the creation of engaging, interactive learning experiences. It allows for the integration of multimedia elements, supports diverse learning styles, and facilitates real-time feedback, enhancing both teaching and learning processes.

From designing microlearning modules, I learned the importance of delivering content in concise, focused segments. This approach improves learner engagement and retention, making complex information more digestible and accessible.

As an instructional designer, I'm proud of my ability to create learner-centered experiences that effectively bridge knowledge gaps. By aligning instructional strategies with learners' needs, I contribute to meaningful and impactful education.

If I could change one aspect of microlearning design, I would enhance personalization. Incorporating adaptive learning technologies would tailor content to individual learners' progress and preferences, optimizing their learning journey.
